Sunoptic Technologies, a leading U.S. manufacturer of surgical lighting and visualization systems, announced today that it has officially acquired Acera’s LED Handheld Light Source. The acquisition, finalized on September 8, 2025, adds a next-generation portable illumination product designed to deliver untethered, high-performance light for surgical and endoscopic procedures.
This strategic move expands Sunoptic’s position as a comprehensive provider of surgical
illumination solutions—offering advanced fiber-optic Xenon and LED systems alongside
compact, handheld options that maximize mobility and flexibility in the operating room.

• True Surgical Illumination in a Handheld Form: The Acera LED Handheld Light Source
delivers bright, high-CRI, 5,000K illumination in a compact, mobile format that rivals
traditional systems.
• Freedom from Cables and Towers: Designed for untethered use, the handheld device
eliminates the need for fiber optic cables and external towers, reducing clutter and
improving ergonomics in the OR.
• Broader Portfolio for Surgeons & OEMs: Sunoptic will integrate this handheld solution
into its existing product lines and make it available for OEM customization across

Next Steps.
Effective immediately, Sunoptic Technologies will assume ownership of the Acera LED
Handheld Light Source and begin integrating it into its surgical lighting portfolio. Current
Acera customers will continue to receive uninterrupted product support. The product will
also be incorporated into Sunoptic’s OEM offerings, enabling device manufacturers to add
high-performance portable illumination to their systems.
